Ken Goodall had a strong affinity with both Northern Ireland and England – born in Leeds, he was educated at Foyle College in Derry before studying chemical engineering at Newcastle University.
The No.8 was still a teenager when he made his Ireland debut against Australia at Lansdowne Road in 1967 and in a three-year period, amassed 19 successive caps including three tries.
Unsurprisingly given his age, Goodall was only a squad member on the 1968 Lions tour of South Africa with Jim Telfer the Test No.8.
But in his sole appearance on Tour he did it make over the try-line in a 37-9 victory over Eastern Transvaal.
Goodall, who switched codes to play for rugby league club Workington Town after 1970, passed away in 2006.
