Ken Kennedy twice toured with the Lions in 1966 to Australia and New Zealand, and then in 1974 to South Africa after an impressive spell at both club and international level.
The Irish hooker made his name as an accomplished player at London Irish, and he had only earned eight Test caps by the time the Lions came calling in 1966.
He played in four Tests on that Tour, two against Australia, and two more against the All Blacks
Kennedy was an NHS doctor in his first year as a houseman and his pay stopped the moment he stepped foot on the plane. In 1974 he split his time between playing and being the unofficial team doctor.
Kennedy’s medical days continued after rugby finished as he became a back specialist – with famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar among his clients.
