A British & Irish Lions bolter in 2017, prop Kyle Sinckler made a major impact in international rugby after making his England debut against South Africa in November 2016.

Born in Wandsworth, Sinckler originally played football as a youngster but switched to rugby aged eight and just four years later, he was snapped up by the Harlequins academy.

From there the tighthead’s progression was rapid, and he made his Quins debut against Gloucester Rugby in 2011 in a handsome 42-6 victory, aged just 18.

That season he was sent on loan to Richmond and helped them secure promotion to National League One before winning the Anglo-Welsh Cup with Harlequins a year later.

Sinckler has been involved with England since the U16s and he was first called up to the senior squad by Stuart Lancaster in May 2014 ahead of a three-match series in New Zealand.

He made his first England start against Barbarians in an uncapped international before earning his first cap against the Springboks, coming off the bench in the 37-21 victory.

Sinckler went on to make his Six Nations debut in February 2017, winning four more caps off the bench for Eddie Jones’ men as England retained their Championship crown.

His form saw him selected as one of four England props in the final squad for the 2017 Lions Tour to New Zealand, where he started in the 38-7 win against Crusaders.

He was named on the bench for all three Tests, winning the penalty that led to England teammate Owen Farrell kicking the Lions to a 24-21 victory in the second match of the series.

His first England start came against Ireland in the 2018 Six Nations and at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, Sinckler featured in every game as England reached the final.

He scored a memorable try against Australia in the quarter-final before helping England regain the 2020 Six Nations, starting all five of his country’s games.

He was initially left out of the 2021 Tour of South Africa but won the hearts of the nation during a passionate TV interview in which he made very clear what Lions selection meant to him.

Pain turned joy though as he replaced Andrew Porter after the Irish prop had to withdraw from the squad due to injury. On Tour, Sinckler made seven appearances, including three off the bench against South Africa.
