Lee Mears was one of four hookers selected by Sir Ian McGeechan for the 2009 Tour to South Africa.
He played in four matches against provincial sides, making two starts, and scored the Lions opening try in their 39-3 defeat of the Sharks in Durban.
Mears was named in the front row to start the first Test against the Springboks alongside props Gethin Jenkins and Phil Vickery.
That narrow first Test defeat to the Boks was Mears' sole Test appearance but he did also feature in the midweek clash with the Emerging Springboks.
In February 2013 the England No.2 retired after being diagnosed with a heart abnormality.
