Three tries in four appearances marked a job well done for Louis Rees-Zammit on his first British & Irish Lions Tour in South Africa in 2021.

The Wales winger took all of three minutes to touch down for the first time on his debut, as he scored the opening try in the 56-14 win against Sigma Lions.

Another try came against Cell C Sharks and then his third against DHL Stormers in the final match before the Test series as he again underlined his potential.

In 2019 Rees-Zammit became Gloucester’s youngest player in Premiership history and, aged just 18, he had already notched his first try as a professional, as well as a maiden hat-trick in a breakthrough campaign.

A first international cap followed in October 2020 away to France, while he added a first try at Test level against Georgia in the Autumn Nations Cup.

Rees-Zammit’s first involvement in the Guinness Six Nations came in 2021 and he made an immediate impression, scoring an acrobatic try against Ireland in an opening victory.

He followed it up with two more against Scotland, the second a remarkable solo effort where he demonstrated his exceptional pace in what proved to be the match-winning score.

Another long-distance score, this time an interception, came against Italy, and while he was narrowly denied a try in the final game in Paris, with Wales just missing out on the Grand Slam, Rees-Zammit still ended his first Championship campaign with a title.
