Born in New Zealand, Martin Tweed came to England to study medicine at London’s Guy’s Hospital.
It was while studying in the English capital, that he caught the eye playing rugby for the medical school – even seeing his exploits in the 1914 clash with St Thomas reported back home in New Zealand.
Four years earlier he was selected as part of the Lions squad on the 1910 Tour to Argentina.
Tweed played in the sole international match against Argentina which saw the tourists run out 28-3 winners.
Tweed later served as part of the New Zealand medical corps, where he rose to the rank of colonel and afterwards worked at Wellington Hospital.
