A larger-than-life character, England lock Maurice Colclough toured on two occasions with the Lions, to South Africa in 1980 and to New Zealand three years later.

He played all eight Tests across the two Tours, forming an all-English second row partnership with Bill Beaumont on the first.

Beaumont had led England to the Grand Slam earlier that year alongside Colclough, who played his club rugby at the time with Angouleme, one of the first Englishman to play across the Channel.

He was selected again by the Lions in 1983 and earned his spot in the Test side for all four Tests.

After retiring he spent time in South Africa and then Wales but sadly passed away in 2006 after a long battle with a brain tumour.
