Ireland three-quarter Mike Kiernan toured New Zealand with the Lions in 1983, featuring in three of the four Test matches.
Kiernan missed the opening Test in Christchurch but, switching from outside to inside centre, started each of the next three against the All Blacks alongside David Irwin, twice, and John Rutherford once.
He also played in seven matches against provincial sides, scoring tries in victories over Wellington and Southland, plus a drop goal in the win over Wairarapa/Bush that preceded the second Test.
Kiernan is the most capped player in Irish club Dolphin’s history having represented his country 43 times, including three appearances at the 1987 Rugby World Cup.
He is the nephew of Tom Kiernan, Lions captain for the 1968 Tour to South Africa where he scored 35 points.
