Michael Owen made his Lions debut against Argentina in 2005, when he captained the side, and played six games during the Tour of New Zealand that year.
Capped 41 times by Wales, he was known for his ball handling and played in a number of positions, principally No.8 but also flanker and even lock.
He took over from the injured Gareth Thomas as Wales captain during the 2005 Championship and became the 122nd captain of his country when he led Wales out against Scotland, in the season they secured their first Grand Slam in 27 years.
