An England international over eight years, Mike Slemen was selected as one of four wingers on the 1980 tour to South Africa with the Lions.
Playing alongside Liverpool St Helens club colleague Maurice Colclough, Slemen scored five tries in all on the Tour to finish as the top scorer despite only playing five matches.
In the match against a South African invitational XV he scored twice, including finishing off one magnificent team try in a narrow victory.
Slemen played in the first Test, a 26-22 defeat, but had to return home due to a family illness and therefore saw his Tour cut short.
Slemen won 32 international caps in all, scoring eight tries.
