Maurice ‘Moss’ Keane made 12 appearances during a single Tour for the Lions, making 11 starts and one substitute appearance during the 1977 trip to New Zealand.

The Irish second row began his sporting career as a Gaelic footballer, playing for University College Cork, but switched to rugby after a college friend introduced him to the game.

Due to Gaelic Athletic Association’s ban on foreign games Maurice had to play rugby under the name ‘Moss Fenton’ and went on to make his Ireland debut in 1974.

Three years later he was selected to tour with the Lions and played the opening Test against the All Blacks, losing 16-12.

He went on to play five more times during the Tour, but did not feature in another Test.
