Had he not used a magnetic coil on his arm, Neil Jenkins would have likely missed the Lions’ 1997 tour of South Africa.
The fly-half turned full-back broke his forearm in that year’s Five Nations, with his place on the plane in doubt until the day before departure.
Kicking 24 points in a Test warm-up against Natal proved enough for Jenkins to get the nod at No.15, scoring 15 points in each of the first and second Tests and 11 in the third, kicking the Lions to a famous 2-1 series victory despite the Springboks scoring three times the number of tries.
In 2001, the emergence of Jonny Wilkinson forced Jenkins to make just one substitute appearance in the Second Test, but his Lions journey wasn’t to end there, joining as kicking coach in the 2009 and 2013 tours.
