Nick Jeavons was originally not selected for the 1983 Lions Tour of New Zealand, drafted in as a replacement for the injured John O’Driscoll, who would nonetheless return to the scene after a swift recovery.
Arriving in time for the final warm-up game before the First Test, the Calcutta-born flanker played in six Tour matches, for all of which he was on the winning side, starting with the game against Mid Canterbury.
Jeavons was unable to force his way into any of the Tests against New Zealand, but the Englishman earned 14 caps for his country, winning the last of those in March of 1983 before going to New Zealand to play with rugby’s most famous touring team.
