A man of many talents, Peter Squires played in 49 first-class cricket matches for Yorkshire before being selected for the 1977 British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand.
Squires – who won 29 caps for England during the 1970s – made his Lions debut in the first warm-up game against Wairarapa/Bush, scoring his first try of the Tour in the same match in Masterton.
One of only five Englishmen on the Tour, Squires played in the opening Test against the All Blacks in Wellington, which ended in a 16-12 victory for the hosts, but he did not feature in the remaining Tests as hamstring problems curtailed his involvement.
Despite missing out on the rest of the series, the winger scored another 16 points in the famous red jersey in New Zealand - bagging eight apiece in the games against West Coast/Buller and New Zealand Maori.
