Born in Wales but a Gloucester legend, prop Phil Blakeway made his international debut two years after he had almost been forced to retire due to a broken neck.
Part of the England side that had won the Grand Slam in 1980, he was chosen to tour South Africa alongside international front row colleagues Fran Cotton and Peter Wheeler.
Unfortunately for Blakeway, a rib injury cut short his Tour, with his only appearance coming in the second game against a South African Rugby Board Invitational XV.
In all Blakeway won 19 caps for England between 1980 and 1985, with the highlight being the Slam in his first season.
