Consett-born centre Ranald MacDonald may have won just six caps in one year of international rugby, but it was a glorious year nonetheless.
After falling 8-5 to France in front of 70,000 people at Murrayfield, he went on to win two Lions Test caps, make 14 appearances and score 14 tries on the 1950 British & Irish Lions Tour.
He started on the wing in the drawn first Test against New Zealand in Carisbrook before scoring in the second Test, a 24-3 win over Australia in Sydney in which he scored a try.
He scored two tries in games against Wanganui and Ceylon.
