Ospreys and Wales scrum-half Rhys Webb has become a British & Irish Lion for the first time after being named as one of the scrum-halves to tour New Zealand.
Webb will be a part of The Lions squad to seek a series win over the All Blacks for the first time since 1971.
After making his debut for the Ospreys in 2007, Webb pushed his way into the side the following season and featured for Wales Under-20 in the 2008 Junior World Championships.
A year later, Webb was a member of the Wales Sevens side that claimed the 2009 Sevens World Cup and, following that, quickly became a key part of the Ospreys’ side.
In 2012, he made his debut for Wales coming off the bench in their RBS 6 Nations clash with Italy and has since been a mainstay in their squad.
Unfortunately, Webb missed Wales’ 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign through injury but returned last year to start in all three of their Tests against the All Blacks.
Webb became an integral part of Wales’ RBS 6 Nations campaign this season, providing a critical partnership with Dan Biggar in the half-backs.
Webb’s speed off the base and pin-point passing was crucial in George North’s try against Ireland as Wales earned themselves a vital victory.
It is Webb’s tenacity and speed to the breakdown which has earned him the call-up to The British & Irish Lions squad, while he is a constant try-scoring threat having scored a try in every four caps.
Webb also earned his 100th Guinness PRO12 appearance when he was picked to start for Ospreys in their narrow defeat to Leinster earlier this month.
