Richie Gray earned selection for his first Lions tour in 2013 on the back of some stand-out performances for Scotland.
The giant second row appeared in warm-up clashes on the Tour against the Barbarians, the Queensland Reds and a combined NSW and Queensland County XV.
But a shoulder knock sustained against the latter appeared to have ruined his chances of making the Test squad before he was named as a replacement by Warren Gatland for the decisive third Test in Sydney.
Gray came off the bench in that historic victory - the only Scot to get on the pitch in the Test series win - and will still only be 27 by the time of The British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand in 2017.
Since that first Tour to Australia, Gray has established himself as a stand-out operator for Scotland - forming a strong second-row pairing with his brother Jonny under head coach Vern Cotter.
