Robert Ackerman experienced the pinnacle of the game from a very young age after being presented with his first Wales cap at the age of 19 – in a clash against the All Blacks no less.
And the Ebbw Vale-born centre was facing New Zealand three years later, but this time in a Lions jersey after being handed the ultimate call-up by Jim Telfer.
The Lions failed to win a test in 1983 but Ackerman was involved in the first and closest match with the All Blacks, starting at centre in the 16-12 defeat in Christchurch.
Ackerman also came off the bench in the fourth Test and played a key role on Tour as a whole, making ten appearances and scoring a try against North Auckland.
In his later career, he turned to rugby league and became a dual-code international for Wales before turning his hand to school coaching.
