Rob Andrew was selected for The British & Irish Lions tours in 1989 and 1993 – appearing 13 times, scoring two tries and amassing 40 points.
He also had the honour of skippering the Lions against France in 1989 in a rare home match that formed part of the celebrations of the bi-centennial of the French Revolution.
Andrew enjoyed an illustrious domestic career, playing for Cambridge University in the annual Varsity fixture. He started his club career with Nottingham, before moving to Wasps and then latterly to Newcastle Gosforth in 1995 as both a player and as director of rugby.
He ended his career in 1999 after suffering an injury in training and is also credited with discovering World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson at the Falcons.
Andrew played in three World Cups for England in 1987, 1991 and 1995 – winning 70 caps for his country and skippering them on two occasions.
