Scrum-half Robert Jones followed in the footsteps of Gareth Edwards, becoming only the second No.9 to have earned more than 50 international caps for Wales.
He toured with The British & Irish Lions in 1989 in Australia – playing in all three Test matches – and repeated the feat four years later as he boarded the plan for New Zealand.
He played his club rugby for Swansea, Bristol, Cardiff and the Barbarians and also featured for the Lions against a Rest of the World XV in 1986 for the IRB centenary celebrations.
His on-running battle with Australian scrum-half Nick Farr-Jones during the 1989 Tour Down Under was one of the iconic memories of the Lions tour.
Jones also played for Western Province in South Africa during the 1994 Currie Cup tournament, forming a memorable partnership with South African fly-half Joel Stransky.
Jones retired from the international game in 1995 following Wales’ elimination from the World Cup in South Africa and called time on his club career in 2001.
