Irish forward Robert Thompson was selected for the 1891 Lions Tour to South Africa where he played in all three Tests.
Born in County Antrim, Thompson went to Cambridge University where he won a Blue in 1890, and the following year he was selected as part of Bill Maclagan’s touring team.
He played 19 of the 20 matches on the Tour, including all three Tests as the Lions returned home unbeaten.
Thompson, who scored seven tries on the Tour, later fought as part of the Royal Irish Regiment during World War One.
