Rory Sutherland was selected for the Qatar Airways British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia 2025 as a late call-up having also toured South Africa with the Lions in 2021.
He featured off the bench in the Lions' match against First Nations and Pasifika XV after being drafted in as cover alongside compatriots Darcy Graham and Ewan Ashman.
Sutherland made his Scotland debut against Ireland in the 2016 Six Nations, but a serious abductor muscle injury ruled him out for 14 months and any chance of forcing his way into the 2017 Lions squad.
Sutherland’s return to form was gradual, and he did not get back into the Scotland squad until the 2020 Six Nations, four years on from his last cap.
However, since his return, he has been one of the Championship’s leading loosehead props and a mainstay of Scotland’s pack.
Sutherland helped Scotland to power their way past Wales in the 2020 Championship, while he also featured in famous away wins against England and France in 2021.
As a result, he earned a spot in Warren Gatland’s 2021 Lions Tour squad.
He did not disappoint on Tour, making six appearances including a start in the opening Test and a substitute appearance in the second.
In doing so, he became the first Scottish prop to earn two Test caps since Tom Smith in 2005.
With 42 caps to his name, Sutherland experienced a first Rugby World Cup in France in 2023, featuring against Tonga, Romania and Ireland.
After stints with Worcester Warriors, Ulster and Oyonnax, Sutherland signed a two-year deal with URC champions Glasgow Warriors ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
