Ernest Raymond ‘Roy’ John was selected for The British & Irish Lions Tour of New Zealand and Australia in 1950.
John, alongside club-mate Rees Stephens, became the first player from Neath RFC to represent the Lions and played in all six Tests on the Tour.
The highlight being two wins over Australia with John scoring a try in the 24-3 win at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Adaptable as a player between the second row and back row, John earned 19 caps for Wales from 1950-1954 with his first taste of international rugby being a 11-5 win over England.
Wales went on to win the Triple Crown that year, scoring his one and only try for his country in a victory over France that secured the Five Nations Grand Slam.
