Roy Muir Kinnear toured South Africa with the Lions in 1924. A centre, the Scot was involved in all four Test matches.
His four caps for the Lions arrived two years before Scotland called him up, and he appeared a further three times for them.
In 1927, Kinnear switched codes, moving from Heriot’s to Wigan, where he racked up 182 appearances in six years. He was called up for the Great Britain rugby league squad in 1929 for a match against Australia.
During World War II, he returned to rugby union to represent the RAF. He sadly died in 1942 aged 38.
His grandson is the Olivier Award winning actor Rory Kinnear, most famous for being in the James Bond films.
