An inspirational captain, Sam Walker skippered the Lions in 20 matches on their 1938 Tour to South Africa, including in all three Tests against the Springboks.
The Northern Irish prop scored tries in the wins over Griqualand, Transvaal and Western Province Universities as well as helping foster the open style of play the 1938 Lions became renowned for and keeping morale up despite the injuries affecting the squad.
The Belfast-born forward won 15 Ireland caps during a four-year international career, although it was the third Test triumph over South Africa with the Lions at Newlands that was to be his final Test cap.
