In a decade-long Test career, Scott Gibbs was selected for three Tours with the Lions including the historic 2-1 Test series victory over South Africa in 1997.

A Welsh international in both rugby codes, Gibbs was one of six former rugby league players included for the South African tour by coach Sir Ian McGeechan and went on to secure the Player of the Series award.

Gibbs was no stranger to Lions touring in 1997 having previously travelled to New Zealand in 1993 where he scored a try in the final Test defeat.

The centre represented Wales on 51 occasions in all, most memorably crossing for a last-gasp try at Wembley in 1999 that denied England the Grand Slam.

That same year he appeared at the Rugby World Cup and he also was selected for the 2001 Lions Tour to Australia – albeit as an injury replacement.

Mike Catt’s calf problem led to the Welshman being summoned and he scored a single try, taking his Lions tally to three, in his two appearances Down Under but didn’t add to his five Lions’ Test caps.
