Born into a rugby family, Scott Quinnell is the son of former Welsh international Derek Quinnell and the nephew of Welsh legend Barry John, who famously scored 30 of the Lions’ 48 Test points during the New Zealand Tour in 1971.
Quinnell – who won 52 caps for his country – was first selected for the Lions for their tour of South Africa in 1997, but a double hernia operation forced him to leave prematurely.
Four years later, he was selected once again for the Lions’ Australia Tour, scoring three tries in the first warm-up game against Western Australia.
From then, the No.8 played in all three Tests and scored a crucial try in the Lions’ 29-13 victory in Brisbane but the Wallabies came from behind to secure a 2-1 series win.
