Sean Maitland followed in the footsteps of Arthur O’Brien, Pat McEvedy and Riki Flutey as New Zealand-born players who have played for The British & Irish Lions when toured Australia in 2013.
Although born in Tokoroa and a product of the same school as his 2013 head coach Warren Gatland, Hamilton School for Boys, Maitland's father is Scottish and the versatile winger was a key figure on Tour.
Maitland made five appearances for the Lions in tour matches, including clashes with the Western Force, the Waratahs and the Brumbies.
He was also on the bench for the first Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane but did not make it onto the pitch as the back three of George North, Alex Cuthbert and Leigh Halfpenny scored all the Lions points in the victory.
Since the tour Maitland moved from Glasgow Warriors to London Irish and then Saracens while on the international scene he was a key part of the Scotland side that came so close to the Rugby World Cup semi-finals in 2015.
