Born on August 15th 1881, Somers Holmwood was 29 years old when he was picked as part of the British Combined team to travel to Argentina in 1910.
The centre had no previous international experience but plied his domestic trade with Kent and Blackheath.
In total, the team played six matches throughout May and June, winning all six including the sole international against Argentina 28-3.
The latter match went down in history as the first international match contested by an Argentina side.
