Claud Brian ‘Stack’ Stevens is one of the most famous Cornish rugby players of all time having played over 500 games for Penzance/Newlyn and 83 times for Cornwall.
He made his debut for England in 1969 against the touring Springboks and was called up to the hugely successful Lions Tour of New Zealand in 1971.
Stevens made six appearances for the Lions in 1971, without earning a full Test cap, before returning to his national side where he was part of their famous 18-9 victory over South Africa at Ellis Park a year later.
He was captain on that tour of England’s game against Griqualand West, which England won 60-21, and was a try-scorer at Eden Park, Auckland in England’s historic 16-10 victory over the All Blacks in 1973 – their only ever win at the ground.
