Selected on the first official Tour for The British & Irish Lions, halfback Sydney Bell missed out on the first Test, but got a chance in the second match against South Africa, in which the Lions prevailed 17-8.
Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Bell also showed off his intellectual pedigree, earning a degree from Cambridge University, also playing for the side’s rugby team before getting the call to play for the Lions.
That earned him a place in the Barbarians team, matches which secured him a place playing for the famous Lions jersey.
After impressing in the second Test, Bell kept his places for the remainder of the series, playing alongside Louis Magee for two further Tests, playing 16 times on the Tour and scoring three tries.
