The versatile Thomas Banks played eight times on the inaugural British & Irish Lions Tour, to Australia and New Zealand in 1888.
The Salford-born Lancastrian could play in a variety of positions – including wing, half-back and forward and scored a try in their second Tour match against Otago.
Banks played for Swinton when he was selected to Tour, and several years later he changed codes to rugby league.
Outside of rugby, Banks studied at Edinburgh University – where he won the long-distance swimming championships.
