Tom Croft was not initially selected for the 2009 Tour to South Africa but, after being added in place of the suspended Alan Quinlan, he became one of the stand-out Lions performers of a dramatic Test series.

He scored a try on his debut in the famous red jersey against the Golden Lions and then became the first forward in Lions history to score two tries against the Springboks during the first Test in Durban.

He also started the second Test defeat to the Boks before coming off the bench in the morale-boosting third Test win in Johannesburg.

Injuries - in particular a neck problem in 2012 that almost finished his career - stunted his progress but he earned selection again for the 2013 Lions tour to Australia.

Down Under he started the first Test win over the Wallabies and came off the bench in the second Test to take his Lions Test appearances total to five.

Overall Croft has made 11 appearances for the Lions, scoring five tries, but since the 2013 tour injuries have reared their ugly head again - most notably a cruciate ligament problem in the 2013/14 season and his last England cap came under Stuart Lancaster in the 2015 Championship.
