Tom Smith’s opportunity to represent the Lions came in 1908, as the squad toured New Zealand and Australia under coach George Harnett and captain Arthur ‘Boxer’ Harding.
The Rearsby-born star played an incredible 20 times for the Lions on that Tour and notched three tries along the way – crossing the whitewash against Southland, Hawke’s Bay and Newcastle.
Smith also appeared in two of the three Tests against the All Blacks and was one of two Leicester forwards on the Tour, alongside Fred Jackson.
