Swansea-born Tommy Jones-Davies was based in London as a medical practitioner when he first came to the attention of Wales.
The centre, who was the captain of London Welsh at the time, made his bow at Cardiff Arms Park against England in 1930 and scored Wales’ only try in an 11-3 defeat.
Following a further appearance in a victory that denied Ireland the Triple Crown, Jones-Davies was one of seven Wales played selected for the Lions Tour of Australia and New Zealand that very year.
Though he did not appear in any of the five Tests, he was a prolific try-scorer throughout the campaign.
His feats included a hat-trick against West Coast/Buller and a double against Western Australia and, by the end of the Tour, he had scored 11 tries and two drop-goals from 12 games.
He ended his rugby career with a total of four Wales caps and proceeded to serve as an officer during World War Two.
