With an impressive scoring rate of 45 per cent in international rugby – he has notched 16 tries in his 36 appearances for Scotland – Tommy Seymour’s natural finishing ability has earned him a place on the plane to New Zealand.

The winger clearly has a nose for the whitewash but he is so much more than just a finisher, as an explosive ball carrier who is rock solid under the high ball.

Seymour boasts a rich and varied backstory, having been born and raised in the USA – Nashville, Tennessee to be precise – before moving to Northern Ireland via a spell in Dubai, where his father was based for work.

His mother Sue is a born-and-bred Glaswegian however, and Seymour elected to represent Scotland. Having entered the PRO12 playing for Ulster, he made the short hop across the Irish Sea to become a summer signing at Glasgow Warriors in advance of the 2011-12 season.

The speedster instantly became a hit at Scotstoun and made his international debut against South Africa in a 2013 quadrangular tournament before featuring against Italy – in the same tournament – the following weekend.

His first tries came in a 42-17 success over Japan that autumn, as he dotted down twice, while his first try in the RBS 6 Nations (and third overall) came in Scotland’s narrow 19-17 loss to France at BT Murrayfield in March 2014.

The winger scored a wonder interception try against New Zealand in November 2014 before scoring in five consecutive Test matches to see out 2015 (against France, Japan, South Africa, Samoa, Australia).

That equalled the efforts of Johnnie Wallace, Gregor Townsend and Martin Leslie, and one behind the record of six consecutive Scotland tries held by Alex Purvis scored between 1906 and 1908.

Having helped Glasgow Warriors finish as Guinness PRO12 runners-up in 2014, they went one better 12 months on – beating Munster 31-13 in the final to clinch the title – as Seymour was also named in the Guinness PRO12 Dream Team at the end of the campaign.
