England flanker Tony Neary was selected for the Lions touring party to South Africa in 1974 but did not play a test with his England teammate Roger Uttley and Irishman Fergus Slattery preferred.
Despite England’s struggles during the 1970s, Neary was also part of the Lions Tour in 1977 to New Zealand but his only Test in the famous red jersey came in the final All Black Test with the series already lost.
Neary earned 44 caps in his nine-year international career while he was also part of the England North team that famously beat the All Blacks in 1979.
