Injury nearly prevented Tyrone Howe from embarking on a professional career altogether before returning to the game with Ulster in 1998.
Ironically, three years later, Howe was the one to capitalise on injury as a replacement for Dan Luger midway through the tour of Australia.
The winger – who finished his career with an impressive Test strike-rate of six tries from 13 starts for Ireland – only appeared once as a Lion.
But considering the travails earlier in his career, his only game against NSW Country Districts is one more remarkable story and deserves its place within the Lions tapestry.
