Wales’ Vince Griffiths only had three international appearances to his name before The British & Irish Lions Tour of South Africa in 1924, but his performances in the Five Nations were monumental enough to justify his selection.
The Newport outside-half, who went on to skipper his club side in the years to come, scored a try on his Test debut against Scotland and dropped a goal against France at the end of the campaign.
He was preferred however by 1924 coach Harry Packer in the centres, and that was where he ran out for the Lions against the Springboks.
Playing 12 matches in total on the Tour, Griffiths scored four tries against the districts and played the final two Tests in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
