Wallace Jarman played his club rugby for Bristol, where he captained the side, before being selected for The British & Irish Lions’ Tour of Australia in 1899.

At 26 years old at the time he was one of the more experienced members of the squad, and played a major role during the Tour as he featured in 18 of the 20 matches.

He played all four Test matches against the hosts as the Lions went on to secure a 3-1 series win, but scored just a single try throughout the Tour, in the third match of the series against Metropolitan at Sydney.

On his return to British shores, Jarman was capped just once by England in the 1900 Home Nations Championship against Wales at Kingsholm – although amongst 13 new caps he was the only player out of the eight man pack to have any international experience.
