Northampton flanker William Weston won six of his ten England Tests before he was picked to join Doug Prentice’s squad on the British & Irish Lions Tour to Argentina in 1936.
Weston was the only Northampton player to feature under Prentice – both he and captain Bernard Gandey were Leicester men – as the Lions dominated in South America.
Though the 23-0 victory over Los Pumas appears one-sided, it was a testament to how far Argentina had come since four successive losses – 37-0, 46-0, 34-3 and 43-0 – in 1910.
