William Judkins played for Coventry and was a former student at Repton School.
The forward played 13 of 20 Tour matches of The British & Irish Lions’ 1899 visit to Australia, including three of the four Tests.
Judkins missed the first Test against the Australians, which the tourists lost 13-3, but the forward wore the famous red jersey for the remaining three showdowns against the Wallabies – helping the Lions to three straight wins.
The turning point of the tour came as after an opening defeat to the hosts, skipper Matthew Mullineux dropped himself and reshuffled his squad, meaning Judkins among others came into the ultimately victorious Lions line-up.
