Scottish half-back William Wotherspoon was selected to tour with the Lions in 1891 to South Africa.
Educated at Cambridge University, where he won Blues in 1888 and 1889, Wotherspoon made the perfect start to his international career, scoring a hat-trick on debut for Scotland against Ireland in 1891.
Later that year he travelled to South Africa with the Lions, playing nine games in all, including two of the Tests.
He finished the Tour with 22 points, including five tries to complete a perfect year, having earlier won the Triple Crown with Scotland.
Wotherspoon won seven caps in all for Scotland over a four-year career.
