Tadhg Furlong had less than 20 Ireland caps when he was selected by Warren Gatland for the 2017 British & Irish Lions – but such was the young prop’s quality, he started every Test.

He truly established himself as a key man for Ireland the previous November, and underlined his credentials as a player for New Zealand to fear after a dynamic run saw him brush off tackles from Brodie Retallick and Kieran Read during the historic win over the All Blacks in Chicago.

Furlong made his Lions debut off the bench against the New Zealand Barbarians before starting against the Crusaders and the Maori All Blacks.

Impressive front-row performances alongside Mako Vunipola and Jamie George earned the tight-head prop a Test spot as he completed 338 minutes in total during the Tour.

The Irishman was superb in all three Tests, as alongside the two Englishmen the Lions’ front row held firm, and Furlong in particular had the measure of his opposite number Joe Moody throughout the Tests.

Furlong fully embraced the Lions spirit admitting he learned plenty during the Tour from his fellow front-row forwards, and visited schoolchildren at Mahurangi College alongside Jamie George and Tommy Seymour.
