Jonah Lomu is set to make his Cardiff Blues debut during the next fortnight.

New Zealand superstar Lomu, who has joined the Blues on a seven-month contract as he battles his way back from illness and injury, will not be involved in Sunday’s Powergen Cup clash against London Irish.

But back-to-back European Cup appointments with Italian side Calvisano next Saturday and the following weekend, represent a realistic target.

The chances are that Lomu will play in the December 17 return encounter against Calvisano at Cardiff Arms Park, guaranteeing a bumper gate.

"He might be ready for next week, and if he doesn’t make the first Calvisano game, he will definitely make the second one," said Blues head coach David Young.
