League star set for debut

Rugby League convert Mark Gasnier is set to make his debut for French side Stade Francais this weekend.

The Australian star, one of the most revered players in the 13-a-side version of the game, is expected to feature at outside centre when the Parisian club take on Bourgoin in Round 6 of the Top 14 on Friday night.

The 27-year-old arrives in Union with an impressive try-scoring record having crossed for a score more than once every other game during his time with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Gasnier bettered that scoring percentage while in national colours, scoring 11 tries in 15 appearances for the Kangaroos.

Semi-finalists in last season’s competition, Stade Francais have started this year’s campaign brightly, winning their first five fixtures under new head coach Ewan McKenzie.
