Tindall and Delve to lead Gloucester

England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and Welsh international back row man Gareth delve have been made joint captains of Gloucester for the coming season.

Tindall recently returned to England’s senior Elite Playing squad and will be hoping for a call to arms from Martin Johnson in the autumn. The fit-again Delve turned down the chance to tour with Wales this summer in order to get a full pre-season under his belt.

One of the unluckiest players with injuries in the European game, he has undergone surgery on both shoulders and both knees. He stood in as Gloucester captain towards the end of last season and played in the EDF Energy Cup final.

“I’m lucky in a way in that we have a number of leaders throughout the side. Both Gareth and Mike skippered the side last season as did the likes of Olivier Azam and Peter Buxton,” said Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath.

“The nature of the modern game means that, if you name one man as your captain, there is a possibility that you will be denied his services because of injury or international call ups.

“But Gareth and Mike both led the side with distinction last season. They are fine players and command a lot of respect. I’m comfortable naming them as joint captains and, having spoken to them both, know that they view it as an honour.”
