England add uncapped trio

England have added three uncapped players to their training squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with France.

Elliot Daly, Will Fraser and Joel Tomkins have all been called up to provide injury cover as England look to build on their opening wins over Scotland and Ireland.

Wasps utility back Daly is covering for Ben Foden and Saracens duo Fraser and Tomkins are doing the same for Ben Morgan and Jonathan Joseph.

The trio have been promoted from the Saxons squad and met up with the rest of the senior side at Pennyhill Park on Sunday night.

Daly, who can play at wing, full back and centre and is renowned for his huge kicking game, has represented his country at U16, U18 and U20, as well as at second-string level.

The 20-year-old is in just his second full season of professional rugby but has already featured 22 times for Wasps this term.

Daly’s inclusion comes as Northampton’s Foden is required to undergo a post-match recovery programme as he continues his comeback from the serious ankle injury he suffered in September.

No8 Morgan is also recovering from an ankle problem that ruled him out of the 12-6 win in Dublin just over a week ago, with Fraser called up after regularly impressing for Saracens this season.

Like Daly, the 23-year-old back rower won England honours at youth level and has become a solid starter for high-flying Sarries.

Tomkins’ first senior involvement since his switch from rugby league in 2011 is prompted by a foot injury forcing young outside centre Joseph to remain with London Irish rather than push Brad Barritt, Billy Twelvetrees and Manu Tuilagi for a spot in Stuart Lancaster’s starting XV.

The 25-year-old former Wigan Warriors and England RL star is highly unlikely to be retained for the Twickenham matchday 23 but his initial inclusion marks another step in his goal to follow the likes of Chris Ashton, Andy Farrell, Jason Robinson and Shontayne Hape in winning international honours in both codes.
