Farrell inspired by Lions ahead of new campaign

British & Irish Lion Owen Farrell admits the thrill of the series victory Down Under will definitely inspire him to new heights this season.

Farrell came off the bench in the final Test in Sydney to sample the atmosphere as the tourists emerged 41-16 victors to seal the first series win in 16 years.

And after a domestic campaign that saw Saracens fall in the Heineken and Premiership semi-finals while England narrowly missed out on a Grand Slam in Cardiff, Farrell has a few wrongs to put right.

And the 21-year-old insists he returns for the new campaign a vastly-improved player.

“What happened last season and the Lions tour in the summer just excites you more about what could be achieved this season,” Farrell said.

“I have had massive opportunities in the last couple of years at the very highest levels of rugby and to see how great players operate makes you want to get better and better.

“Winning the series was massive and in the meeting we had the day before the Third Test we talked about what it would mean to win.

“Being around different coaches and players on the Lions in Australia was fantastic and you can’t help but absorb all that knowledge being offered on a daily basis.

“You talk so much off the pitch with guys you wouldn’t normally mix with and listen to all different kinds of views.”
